Meet Abhishek Kashyap from Honda Motorcycles

At Accredian, we create accomplished and empowered Data Leaders. We groom our students to dominate the world of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and reshape their future. We value what our students bring to the table. We share their vision and support them during their journey and ensure that they carve a niche for themselves.

We’re proud to have tutored exceptional students all across India. Today, one such exceptional student, Abhishek Kashyap stands in the spotlight.

Student Name: Abhishek Kashyap
Batch: GCD – August 2018
Total years of experience: 7 years
Area of expertise: Data Analysis

Malvika: Can you start by telling me something about your professional journey so far?

Abhishek: Currently, I’m working at Honda Motorcycles as a Data Analyst in customer service. Prior to that, I worked in Tata Motors in the same profile as service marketing. Earlier, I was a part of the business development teams, but my role was to data analysis. In my first company, I joined in production, but after 6 months I changed my department from production to marketing. I have 7 years of experience.

Malvika: Can you tell me what got you interested in Data Science and machine learning?

Abhishek: I’m involved in a similar kind of role because before Honda, I used to work with R and had developed some model but not in detail. So, I decided to learn to YouTube channels, because I think it was the requirement at that time. I had to build some forecasting model and some clustering model. So, I studied and learned things from YouTube as per my requirement; obviously, my interest was for Data Science and machine learning.

When I joined Honda, here I came to know that there were a lot of opportunities for Data Scientists so I decided to switch my career, particularly in the field of Data Science; I wanted to change my industry as well because I didn’t know the options in the manufacturing field. Then I just went through some interview and there I found out I wasn’t as perfect as they required.

Malvika: What do you think is the goal of Data Science?

Abhishek: The goal of Data Science, I think is accurate prediction. Before Data Science, we predicted the future based on experience and now we predict the future as per the trade or as per the actual data.

Malvika: How do you think Data Science has evolved as a field?

Abhishek: I will talk about the manufacturing industry; particularly Indian automobile industry. 3-4 years back, I think only Maruti used to have SAS which too, they were not using properly. For the last two years, most companies like Hyundai’s also implemented R and Hero implemented Python last year. Honda cars have already implemented Python and Tableau, similarly Mahindra. Most just use it for predicting sales production.

Malvika: Are there any trends in the Data Science industry currently that you are excited about?

Abhishek: Actually, I started learning AI because I wanted to learn to build chatbots. I want to focus on deep learning they also teach to develop a chatbot. So, I just want to develop a chatbot for my industry for customer resolution. I believe this will lead to faster and proper resolution.

Malvika: Are there any blogs that you read or any AI influencers or Data Scientists that you’re following online?

Abhishek: I used to follow Kirk Borne but I’m on the field a lot so I don’t get a lot of time. I try to catch up on the blogs of Analytics Vidhya, though.

Malvika: Were there any initial challenges that you faced when you started out in Data Science?

Abhishek: I think my area of concern was statistics. A lot of Data Science interviews focus on statistics. In fact, the only thing asked from Python was Lambda. I will suggest every aspiring Data Scientist to refer a good book on statistics or use the Accredian resources, they are more than enough.

For Python, explore Matplotlib and Seaborn, it would be great!

Malvika: Thank you for your time! Have a nice day.
