In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Vishnupriya Bhakthavatsalam who is a Group Leader at Reliance Industries Ltd. Her insatiable passion for knowledge and upskilling led her to enroll in the Global Certificate for Data Science program at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Vishnupriya: I am from the January 2021 cohort. As the world is incorporating the 4th Industrial revolution, AI for all Industries should be our mantra. Being a Group lead for an R&D organization and working day in and day out on Data from sensors, equipment and projects etc.
I am so sure we are catching it at the right time to use it to give us an edge in science and technology.
Question 2: What got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Vishnupriya: My journey started as Lead Research Scientist from Aditya Birla Sci and Tech Co Ltd after PhD/Post Doc in Chemistry from USA. I was fortunate to have continued my journey further in R&D of Reliance, BASF and so on.
Since Analytical Chemistry is my area, I have been using statistics throughout my career. I started on unsupervised machine learning almost 3 years back and have publications in scientific journals from then on using PCA etc.
Recently, I have submitted my python-based protein consumption toxicological analytics for my organization. Upskilling in lock down with data science and AI helped me in this R&D journey and further understanding of the measured projects data, which also helps R&D projects.
Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered at Accredian so far?
Vishnupriya: I’ve worked on various Data Science tools like Python, R, KNIME
Python Packages Numpy, Pandas, Statsmodel, Seaborn, MatPlotlib, Scikit-learn etc.
Question 4: What challenges did you face when you started your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Vishnupriya: Initial Challenge was the fear of programming after a long time and time I had to invest with a full time job.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian?
Vishnupriya: I like all my Instructors at Accredian; each one of them has put sincere efforts to teach us well.
However, Sudeep was exceptional and he taught us the optimization topic with flair. I definitely like Suchit’s Quiz in the beginning of the class, Amit’s down to earth interactive way of asking us to share codes was wonderful.
