Student Name: Sivakumar Subramani
Current Organization: Tata Consultancy Services
Batch: CDF – July 2019
Total years of experience: 9 years

Malvika: Hi Sivakumar, before we begin, could you tell us more about your current work profile?

Sivakumar: I am currently a Senior Mainframe Developer in the insurance domain in Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

I have also worked as a Subject Matter Expert for various in-house multiple systems/applications and led a team of over 20 members across different geographies. I have 2 years of experience handling an international assignment in Scotland, UK for LBG.

Malvika: What got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?

Sivakumar: I have been working in a domain where I come across a lot of things we can automate, and we can predict.

So that’s where I think that we can implement our Data Science and Machine Learning algorithms.

Malvika: What all tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at INSAID so far?

Sivakumar: I’ve currently progressed a lot on Python and subsequently NumPy and Pandas.

Malvika: What is the goal of Data Science? In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?

Sivakumar: Data Science and even Artificial Intelligence and nowadays, are using/ innovating with products such as Amazon’s Alexa.

The products coming out of Artificial Intelligence applications are terrific! I believe that, especially when a lot of other companies are using your data as well, they’re trying to
predict the future and try to help the customer, is the goal of Data Science.

Malvika: Crafting a great Data Science resume is a critical part of getting shortlisted for Data Science roles. Tell us some ways in which you have improved your resume as part of Data Science Career Launchpad.

Sivakumar: The LinkedIn session was very helpful. I learned how I can transition from mainstream technology to Data Science jobs.

Resume sessions were very useful too. They were crafted for both professionals at entry-level to experienced ones.

Malvika: What is your advice to anyone wanting to start a career in Data Science?

Sivakumar: I would suggest them to break Data Science into different perspectives/aspects.

From a coding perspective, first focus on learning Python and then graduate to the math and statistics and so on. Learning algorithms directly is a waste of time if your basics are unclear.

Malvika: Thank you for your time, Sivakumar. All the best for your future!
