To Sanjib Kumar Jena, Data Science is everything. His whole life revolves around it, and he studies it with ardent fervor to become a data scientist one day. Upgrading his data science knowledge and skills with each passing day, he enrolled for the Global Certificate in Data Science & AI (GCDAI) program at Accredian.
In this interview, let’s see what interests him about Data Science the most and how his experience has been at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Sanjib: I am part of the Global Certificate in Data Science & AI (GCDAI) program, January 2020 batch. Currently, I am solely focusing on upskilling myself in data science and machine learning.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Sanjib: I don’t have any work experience as of now. But I want to become a data scientist in the future. I am learning the basics right now as they will be beneficial for me to develop models and work in this field in the future.
Question 3: What all tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at Accredian so far?
Sanjib: I have mastered Python and its several libraries like Numpy and Pandas. In machine learning I have tried my hands in linear regression, random forest, decision tree, etc.
Question 4: What were some of the initial challenges when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Sanjib: Initially, I had problems understanding machine learning concepts but I have overcome them through regular practice.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from him the Most?
Sanjib: My favorite faculty at Accredian is Lavi Nigam and Deepesh Wadhwani. Lavi teaches us about new platforms and software like the Tremolite Dashboard. With his guidance I have learned to implement it well. And Deepesh provides an in-depth explanation about Data Science and Machine Learning concepts. That helped me understand the various aspects of the subject very easily.
Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?
Sanjib: The goal of Data Science is to apply the basic knowledge of math, statistics and any programming languages like Python to extract and analyze data.
Question 7: In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Sanjib: In my view, Data Science has evolved very rapidly as huge volumes of data are available right now. And they can be used for analysis and predictions in the future.
Question 8: What are the current trends in Data Science that you are most excited about?
Sanjib: The current Data Science trend I am excited about is the different machine learning models and their applications.
Question 9: Which are some of the blogs that you follow?
Sanjib: I don’t follow any specific blogs for AI and ML. I just go through different articles, news and videos to keep myself updated on the latest developments in the data science field.
Question 10: What is your advice to anyone wanting to start a career in Data Science?
Sanjib: I would advise all Data Science enthusiasts to start today. Learn and practice as much as you can to perfect your skill and have a good understanding of how each of the concepts are being implemented and what their benefits are.
