Malvika: Hi Mrinmoy, before we begin, could you tell us more about your current work profile?

Mrinmoy: I am an IT Analyst at Tata Consultancy Services and I’ve been with the organization for around 9 years now.

My work profile is that of a Campaign Marketing Analyst where we convert the clients’ requirements into a technical flow-chart and then we extract the data from the database and solve the problems at hand using SQL.

Malvika: What got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?

Mrinmoy:  Data Science is based on mainly mathematics, statistics, economics, and a bit of programming. These fields are all of interest to me and I thought that Data Science was a great boost for my professional career so I decided to pursue it.

Malvika:  What all tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at INSAID so far?

Mrinmoy: Pandas and NumPy are the Python tools I focused on.

Now at INSAID I’m learning some Data Visualization tools starting with Tableau.

Malvika: What is the goal of Data Science? In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?

Mrinmoy: Actually, I started my career as a researcher and there I was working on socio-economic research. Most of the research was primary and collecting and analyzing that data made me realize the scope of Data Science.

Data Science aims at targetting to identify problems that are hidden under mounds of data and solving them to enable better decision making.

Malvika: At INSAID, students are encouraged to build high-quality GitHub profiles. Have you built a GitHub portfolio and how do you think this will help you?

Mrinmoy: I have created a GitHub profile and based on the session I made improvements and uploaded my projects there. As of now, I’m welcome to any suggestions to make my profile stronger.

Malvika: Crafting a great Data Science resume is a critical part of getting shortlisted for Data Science roles. Tell us some ways in which you have improved your resume as part of Data Science Career Launchpad.

Mrinmoy: It was a good initiative. The Launchpad is a more long-term solution for making better career choices. the pointers shared in the sessions were very useful to build and sustain a professional profile rather than just create and forget one like most professionals end up doing.

Malvika: What is your advice to anyone wanting to start a career in Data Science?

Mrinmoy: There should be two objectives- dedication and discipline.

Whatever your schedule looks like, dedication for the field and discipline in mind-set will enable better time management and also help you build a unique combination of skills.

Malvika: Thank you for your time, Mrinmoy. All the best for your future!
