In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Nitesh Kumar Pandey, a Product Manager at Eveready Industries India Ltd. His insatiable passion for knowledge and upskilling led him to enroll in the Global Certification in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence program at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Nitesh: I am a part of the Global Certificate in Data Science & AI (GCDAI) program, June 2021 batch. Currently, I am working as a Product Manager at Eveready Industries India Ltd.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Nitesh: I started my career in Sales in Dec’2001 at Godrej Sara Lee Ltd and in 2007 I began my journey in marketing with Eveready Industries India Ltd.
Being a Sales & Marketing Professional my life revolves around Data, I have always been fond of analyzing Data and getting Insights from them. As I was inclined towards Data Science I decided to join for a formal course at Accredian.
Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered at Accredian so far?
Nitesh: Since I am learning Data Science and Machine Learning for the first time, I cannot actually say that I have mastered something. But I can very well say that I am on a learning curve and I am very much aware of some of the basic technologies that every Data Scientist should be knowing, like Python, some basics of Statistics, and tools like Tableau.
Question 4: What challenges did you face when you started your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Nitesh: My initial challenge was that I was not able to understand everything right away in the class. But slowly I worked on it and went through multiple blogs and articles and watched uploaded videos on LMS many times to clear my concepts. Time management is extremely crucial.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them?
Nitesh: I feel that everyone has their own unique teaching methodology and knowledge, and every faculty is really good. But till now I feel the most outstanding teachers at Accredian are Deepesh and Abhinav.
Abhinav explains and makes us think from different angles for the same problem, motivates us for Q&A, and revises our lessons regularly. Deepesh explains very simply with pen and paper and that helps in remembering things after class and stays in your mind even without revising.
Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?
Nitesh: The goal of Data Science is to extract insights from the given data, understand how information and value flow into a business to identify opportunities and improve business processes & improve the profitability of the business.
Question 7: How has Data Science evolved in the last few years and what current trends are you most excited about?
Nitesh: Each of us is dealing with Data in our daily lives. Right from using Google Maps for taking shorter routes to watch videos on Facebook to shopping on any e-commerce platform; we are using technologies equipped with Data science and AI applications every day.
And it is amazing how we get recommendations based on the things we buy or view online. It is very dynamic and evolving at a very fast pace, managing data properly and using it in the right direction will benefit the world.
Question 8: Which Data Science blogs do you follow?
Nitesh: I follow a few Data Science blogs like Medium, Kaggle, KD Nuggets, and Analytics Vidhya.
Question 9: What advice would you give to a beginner in Data Science?
Nitesh: Data Science is a vast field with a lot of future scopes. Like any other field, it requires time, patience, hard work, and a lot of practice. Instead of memorizing one must try to understand the concepts well and Accredian resources are really helpful.
