In Talks with Arun Kumar From FIS I Accredian Spotlight

Working as an Operations Software Analyst for over seven years, Arun Kumar realized the need for automation to optimize the functionality of major computer components like CPU, memory, etc. Recognizing the power of data science, AI and machine learning to manifest this into reality, he decided to upskill an artificial intelligence and data science course, and enrolled for the Global Certificate in Data Science (GCD) program at Accredian

In this interview, let’s see what interests him in data science the most and how his experience has been at Accredian.

Question 1: Which program & batch are you part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?

Arun: I am part of the Global Certificate in Data Science (GCD) program at Accredian. I have been working as an Operations Software Analyst at FIS for the past seven years. I joined the company as a fresher. My responsibilities in the company include monitoring CPU, memory and disk spaces on servers like Tivoli SCAPM, Omnibus, Zenoss, etc. Depending on their functionality we log in to the servers and figure out the issues it may be having. I have also tried my hands on ServiceNow Administration and Developing to create user dashboards and tables like Incident, Change-request, Sys_user, etc.

Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?

Arun: So far, in my seven years of experience, I have been working in a server application monitoring team where we work on utilizations of CPU, memory and disk. And since these are not widely available, few are getting automated. My interest in data science and machine learning heightened when I saw that these technologies can actually revolutionize the engineering in computers. Data Science is also one of the top 5 jobs in the market right now, so I think it is the right moment for me to upskill in it via the right artificial intelligence and data science course.

Question 3: What were some of the initial challenges when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?

Arun: I don’t have a programming background. So, Python was a challenging thing to learn initially in Accredian’s artificial intelligence and data science course. To overcome this issue, I practiced a lot and watched YouTube videos on Python coding. From the videos, I first tried to understand what they were doing, and then I tried the same on my own in different cases and finally worked it out.

Question 4: Which are some of the blogs that you follow?

Arun: I follow Data Science Central, Revolution Analytics and AnalyticsVidhya.

This was a conversation with one of our GCD students – Arun Kumar.
