In Talks with Sharan Kumar from SLK Software I Accredian Spotlight

In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Sharan Kumar, a Product Engineer working with V-Labs SLK Software. He is passionate about learning and equips himself with Data Science and Machine Learning skills to leverage his work and transition to his dream career in Artificial Intelligence.

Question 1: What is your current work profile? Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?

Sharan: I am working as an IT infrastructure cum Project Engineer in computer vision AI at SLK software Bangalore. As my aim is to contribute to the field of Artificial Intelligence so I enrolled in the Data Science & AI program at Accredian. I’m very happy to do some real-time projects based on ML.

Question 2: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian?

Sharan: I am a part of the Global Certification in Data Science program. I’m from January 2021 batch.

Question 3: What all Data Science tools and packages have you mastered in your program at Accredian so far?

Sharan: Currently, I am comfortable working with Python and programming tools like Jupyter notebook, NumPy, Pandas, Sci-kit, Matplotlib, Seabourn, etc.

I love to work with Machine Learning models like Linear regression, Logistic regression, KNN, Decision tree, Random Forests, support vector machines, etc.

Question 4: What challenges did you face in your Data Science journey? How did you overcome them?

Sharan: I initially faced challenges with understanding Python. In Data Science one needs to be thorough with Python libraries, Exploratory Data Analysis like Data cleaning, Data mining, and Data warehouse. These Python skills are crucial to communicate with customers and understand their business problems and requirements, and eventually build models.

Accredian faculty like Deepesh and Hemanka made it easy to approach the business problems. It’s like a cakewalk now.

Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them the most?

Sharan: My favorite faculty is Deepesh Wadhwani. His way of teaching is very calm and composed. He explains all the concepts with a lot of ease and shares everyday examples that are very beneficial.

Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?

Sharan: The goal of Data Science is to explore, sort, and analyze mega data from various sources. But the ultimate purpose as per my view is to conserve the means for setting business-focused insights from data.

This requires an understanding of how the value of information flows in the business and the ability to use that understanding to identify business opportunities.

Question 7: Which are some of the Data Science blogs that you follow?

Sharan: I follow various blogs on Data Science like Analytics Vidhya, Diverse Data Science, Medium and often refer to Kaggle.com.

Question 8: What advice would you give to a Data Science beginner?

Sharan: My advice for those who are going to start their Data Science journey is that they should brush up on statistics and probability concepts before practicing languages like Python programming.

Start working on Machine Learning basics and the libraries. Try to identify the function of libraries that help in studying business problems and work on more real-time projects.
