Malvika: Can you start by telling me something about your professional journey so far?
Aruna: I am currently a Data Analyst at Course5 Transformative Intelligence. This is my first company and I have a total of 3 years of experience here.
My current work is not core data analysis, it’s more related to operational workflow but I wish to take on more analysis-oriented roles which is why I started with my course at INSAID.
Malvika: How did you get interested in Data Science and AI?
Aruna: In my current organization, the focus is on data and data analysis. So I was very interested in how people are using data for analysis and recently I got involved in a project in my organization related to R optimization.
That’s where I got interested to know more about data. Since then I picked up the momentum and started reading more about this. If we are using data manually, there is a lot of stuff we’re overlooking. Using machine learning algorithms, we can predict results as early as possible, almost like 80% of the time it takes to manually analyze data.
Malvika: Can you talk to me about current trends in Data Science and AI that interest you?
Aruna: Yes, I’m particularly interested in how Data Science and machine learning are picking up pace in almost all industries. In the healthcare industry, a lot of learning from these fields is getting implemented.
Another great application is the increased use of chatbots. Chatbots are extremely efficient. They reduce the time taken to solve issues and keep the conversation directed. That reduces the turnaround time for a lot of problems.
You are not dependent on someone’s availability to get your resolution, automation takes care of all that. In the future, a lot of revolutionary changes will be visible in the educational field and healthcare domains.
Malvika: Aruna, can we talk about the evolution of Data Science, as well?
Aruna: People have been using data from many years now. Initially, people used to analyze and understand the data manually and everything had a step-by-step approach. These traditional techniques or methods that people used to follow took a lot of time.
We have taken moon-steps when it comes to algorithms that we use today.
Malvika: Do you have any advice for a Data Science newbie?
Aruna: While Data Science is interesting from the outside, you need to understand that it will take a lot of time and skills to learn the subject. You need to keep things interesting, you need to nurture and develop your interest in the field continuously, especially when the going gets tough.
Before joining INSAID, I shuffled through a lot of online courses, and whatever I found was definitely informative. The major difference with the INSAID course is that they take a holistic approach. The sessions are not just about the course matter. You can get many resources on the text or theory. At INSAID, we’re getting beginners’ sessions, speeches from many business leaders, webinars and all sorts of engaging material.
What this ensures is that students don’t lose interest in the field at all. I like the spirit at INSAID and the spirit with which they conduct the sessions.
