We’re proud to have tutored exceptional students all across India. Today, one such exceptional student, Veer Vikram Singh stands in the spotlight.

Student Name: Veer Vikram Singh
Current Organization: Intel
Batch: GCD – August 2019
Total years of experience: 7 years

Malvika: Hi Veer, before we begin, could you tell us more about your current work profile?

Veer: I’m working with Intel as a Lead Product Engineer.

Here my tasks include validating, performing analysis from a modern perspective and also to write and modify scripts.

Malvika:  What all tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at Accredian so far?

Veer: In Data Science, we have started with Python and basic statistics. Then we’ve also done some exploratory data analysis using Scikit Learn and Pandas.

Malvika:  What are some of the initial challenges you faced when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?

Veer: I was apprehensive about all the hard-core studying involved in the field. There was programming, statistics and also domain expertise that needed to be mastered.

Slowly as I started, I realized not everything was as hard as it seemed. For every subject, there was a certain level that you needed to know.

So I overcame these fears after taking things slow and doing a lot of practice.

Malvika: Which are the top two Data Science & AI influencers you follow?

Veer: I follow Dr. Kirk Borne, a renowned Data Scientist, and a speaker at Accredian as well.

Also, I look forward to Dr. Pulipaka, Chief Data Scientist of Accenture, on social media.
He shares industry trends, logs, resources over media platforms.

Malvika: Crafting a great Data Science resume is a critical part of getting shortlisted for Data Science roles. Tell us some ways in which you have improved your resume as part of Data Science Career Launchpad.

Veer: It was very helpful. I learned a lot of things from the session.

My resume was 4 pages long. I came to understand that there is something called Master and customized resume. Nikhil taught us how to create different folders and edit your resume as per different job descriptions, what information goes where and how to cover everything in one page.

Malvika: At Accredian, students are encouraged to build high-quality GitHub profiles. Have you built a GitHub portfolio and how do you think this will help you?

Veer: Suchit had conducted the GitHub profile session. Before the session, we knew about GitHub, some of us even had our profiles ready but Suchit really taught us how to make everything more presentable.

He made us aware of the benefits a crisp and high-quality GitHub profile can have. It can

Malvika: What is the goal of Data Science? In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?

Veer: I can view the goal of Data Science as both Global and Local.

The global goal of Data Science is to solve a business problem because ultimately that is the use of Data Science but if I were to talk about the local goal; the local goal would be to construct the means for extracting business-focused insights from data.

This requires an understanding that how value and information flows in the business and the ability to use that understanding to identify business opportunities by changing the patterns.

Malvika: Accredian’s mission is to Groom Data Leaders of tomorrow. What do you understand by a Data Leader? And how is a Data Leader different from a Data Scientist?

Veer: A Data Leader is one step ahead of a Data Scientist and is not involved in hands-on work.

His time is spent learning business strategies, discussions with the client, and diving into the hottest new algorithms. So a lot of responsibilities of a Data Leader involves helping other people to do their job.

Malvika: Thank you for your time, Veer. All the best for your future!
