We value what our students bring to the table. We share their vision and support them during their journey and ensure that they carve a niche for themselves.
We’re proud to have tutored exceptional students all across India. Today, one such exceptional student, Srividya Sriram stands in the spotlight.
Student Name: Srividya Sriram
Batch: GCD – October 2019
Total years of experience: 5 years
Malvika: Hi Srividya, before we begin, could you tell us more about your current work profile?
Srividya: I am currently not working. I have a previous experience of 5 years, but then I have taken a gap of around 8 years since 2011. I had to relocate to Africa with my family.
Now, now we’re back in India and taking stock I realized my skills are a little obsolete. I was looking for more relevant career choices and that’s when I came across Data Science. I didn’t have any knowledge of it previously. I did some research on where I can study it from and then I decided that I should go with Accredian.
It’s turning out to be a good decision!
Malvika: What are some of the initial challenges you faced when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Srividya: To tell you the truth, I’m still coping with this work gap I have. I’m not completely there yet. I’m still coping with the break and then I have a small kid.
And it’s not very easy. I have to mentally push myself to pick up the right momentum. I’m getting there, it is quite the journey.
Malvika: What all tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at Accredian so far?
Srividya: Till now I have learned Python- the programming language and associated packages like NumPy and Pandas packages.
I have used some Data Visualization packages for my EDA project.
Malvika: What is the goal of Data Science? In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Srividya: For me as a person, I thought it was a very new topic but then when I went back to researching the history, I’ve realized it is deep-rooted and has been going on for quite some time.
The main thing is, as we go ahead, so much of data is being generated with the advancement of technology. So, based on the data that has been generated, we get many inputs.
Businesses get their input from the data that has been collected so that they can improve their business further. So Data Science is the tool for understanding and implementing these inputs to increase a business’s profitability.
Malvika: What are the current trends in Data Science that you are most excited about?
Srividya: Basically, new devices that are being developed based on the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence are catching my attention.
The speed at which they are being developed is creating so much data for businesses to collect and analyze. Like you have the smartwatches right now and then we have voice-based assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant.
Malvika: Accredian’s mission is to Groom Data Leaders of tomorrow. What do you understand by a Data Leader? And how is a Data Leader different from a Data Scientist?
Srividya: A Data Scientist is somebody who has the responsibility of picking out and analyzing whatever data is there and then creating models to predict some values.
Data Leader is supposed to have knowledge about what the business requires from them.
A Data Leader should be a person who bridges the gap between the business requirement and the results given by Data Scientists.
A Data Scientist’s role should be just how about analyzing the data and the models according to the requirement but then communicating about the business, and then understanding exactly what the business needs is what a Data Leader should be able to do.
Malvika: Crafting a great Data Science resume is a critical part of getting shortlisted for Data Science roles. Tell us some ways in which you have improved your resume as part of Data Science Career Launchpad.
Srividya: I have attended both the LinkedIn session as well as the resume session.
The session helped me to cut short my resume from the initial 6 pages. I had to revisit all of my previous projects, in full detail.
You have to craft your resume in such a way that recruiters have a good idea of what you are capable of without having it stretch for 5-6 pages. I picked that up from the sessions, the importance of being concise and precise.
Malvika: How has your journey with Accredian been so far? Do you have any comments on how the curriculum has been structured, the faculty and the support team?
Srividya: I actually like the curriculum structure. I’m very, very, happy that I chose Accredian.
Things like having access to the previous class recordings and is very advantageous for me. If I’m stuck at someplace, I go back to the previous recordings and listen to that. In terms of support as well, Accredian has been phenomenal.
Malvika: Thank you for your time, Srividya. All the best for your future!
