In Talks with Saurabh Sharma From Larsen & Toubro Infotech Limited I Accredian Spotlight

A senior manager at Larsen & Toubro, Saurabh Sharma, has always worked closely with data. However, his main challenge was programming language. And to overcome it and learn more about data science, he looked up for the best data science course in Mumbai and enrolled for the Global Certificate in Data Science & AI (GCDAI) program at Accredian.

In this interview, lets see why he thinks data science is important for businesses and how his learning experience has been at Accredian.

Question 1: Which program & batch are you part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?

Saurabh: I am part of the Global Certificate in Data Science & AI (GCDAI) program from August’20 batch and I’m currently working as a Senior Manager for the Data Management Center of Excellence in Larsen and Toubro InfoTech.

I have three major responsibilities: first is to architect design and develop multiple cognitive and non-cognitive assets. That way we can accelerate data management use cases on Master Data Management, data migration, data quality, data integrations, and governance to leverage enterprise-wide support for multiple projects and reduce overall cost enabling faster production.

The second is to console data and digital projects in LTE that acts as an SME for any technical design and architecture escalations, redesign, and re-architect the solutions if needed.

The third is to respond to multiple RFP that comes to LTI for data and digital groups. In addition, I’m also responsible to grow the capability or the practice and increase its acceptance within the digital projects.

Question 2: What are some of the initial challenges when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?

Saurabh: Throughout my career, I have dealt only with data. So there were no major challenges that I faced when I started with a data science course in Mumbai at Accredian. But as I work mostly with the tools, be it on the MDM side or data quality, integration, migration, etc., I felt that in programming languages, my hands are tied and I have to overcome that.

So with a lot of learning and practice, I finally dissolved my challenge. The starter kits from Accredian also helped significantly. It is designed so methodically that even a person with zero work experience and non-technical background can pick it up easily. Suchit’s class also helped clear a lot of doubt.

Question 3: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from him the Most?

Saurabh: All the faculties at Accredian’s data science course in Mumbai are best in one way or the other so I wouldn’t be able to call out anyone as my favorites. I have attended classes of only three and among them what I learned from Suchit is, how to approach any problem in the right way and how to break it into segments to extract more information by asking the relevant questions. His explaining difficult concepts in layman’s terms also helped me understand quickly and was sort of an eye-opener for me.

Question 4: What is the goal of Data Science?

Saurabh: The goal of data science that I understand is data-driven decision-making and to create the means for extracting business-focused insight from data. Data science answers how effectively one should use data for decision making in your day to day work.

Question 5: Which are some of the blogs that you follow?

Saurabh: During and even after data science course in Mumbai, I follow Medium regularly. Data Science Central is another one where you can learn a lot about statistics. And, for the latest trends and developments, I follow Towards Data Science.

This was a conversation with one of our GCDAI students – Saurabh Sharma.
