At Accredian, we create accomplished and empowered Data Leaders. We groom our students to dominate the world of Data Science and AI and reshape their future. We value what our students bring to the table. We share their vision and support them during their journey and ensure that they carve a niche for themselves.
We’re proud to have tutored exceptional students all across India. Today, one such exceptional student, Ashok Gual stands in the spotlight.
Student Name: Ashok Gual
Batch: GCD – June 2019
Total years of experience: 4 years
Malvika: Hi Ashok, before we begin, could you tell us more about your current work profile?
Ashok: Currently, I work as a Software Engineer at CenturyLink Technologies India Private Limited with the telecom software industry. My work profile is that of an automation Test Engineer and I have already 4 years of experience.
I got interested in Data Science because of my present company itself.
Malvika: What all tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at Accredian so far?
Ashok: I have learned Python and it’s many packages like NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib Seaborn and so on.
Malvika: What are some of the initial challenges you faced when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Ashok: As an Automation Test Engineer, I had experience in the Java programming language and so learning Python was a little bit challenging for me because I was completely new to the Python.
Now I’m participating in different hackathons and I have started implementing the testing jobs in my company in Python. I’m very confident about my progress there.
Malvika: What is the goal of Data Science? In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Ashok: Certainly the main goal of a Data Scientist is to extract insights from data.
Another important goal is to find out more business opportunities to solve by analyzing and understanding the data.
Being a Data Scientist doesn’t mean that you have to make more complicated models to achieve 99% accuracy, its about whether you are able to paint the solution of the particular problem or not.
10 years ago, Facebook, Google, YouTube, and many online websites started. Each and every company maintained its own database and started utilizing that data to identify the business problems and they earned a lot of money by doing the analysis.
Malvika: At Accredian, students are encouraged to build high-quality GitHub profiles. Have you built a GitHub portfolio and how do you think this will help you?
Ashok: I have used GitHub earlier as well but I had no idea that we can even make our personal profile on it. So after attending the Launchpad program on GitHub, I started building my own GitHub profile and uploading each and every project, whatever I’m practicing at home and whatever the projects I’m participating in.
It is a very secure place to keep your projects and access whenever you want. You can just log into GitHub and access your old projects and also showcase it to others. It gives you good exposure.
Malvika: How has your journey with Accredian been so far? Do you have any comments on how the curriculum has been structured, the faculty and the support team?
Ashok: The support team is awesome.
After the class/before the class, you can mail them and you’ll get the optimum response within hours whatever is your issue.
I think my decision to join Accredian is wonderful!
Malvika: What is your advice to anyone wanting to start a career in Data Science?
Ashok: You have to practice what you are getting taught by your institute, like regularly you need to practice.
Python should be your core strength. There are so many libraries in Python, you need to get more hands-on to understand the basic concept of Machine Learning because you need to understand the math behind Machine Learning things.
Malvika: Thank you for your time, Ashok. All the best for your future!
