Coming from an engineering background, Aditi Goyal always felt a pull towards programming. And as she steered through her career and arrived at a point where her responsibilities heavily involved analysis and strategy, she realized the boon of automation. Wanting to know more and delve deeper, she looked for the right Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Course and enrolled for the Certificate in Data Foundation (CDF) program at Accredian.
In this interview, let’s see what see her take on the impact of data science on businesses and how her experience has been at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Aditi: I am part of the Certificate in Data Science (CDF) program, July 2020 batch. I am currently working as a senior consultant – SAP security lead and manage a team of nine SAP consultants at Capgemini. I am responsible for managing all development and maintenance activities in the defined landscape for pharmaceutical clients along with devising continuous improvements in the form of automation.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Aditi: I’ve a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, but I’ve always been inclined towards programming and developing logic. During my final year, I worked on a project to develop an integrated spatial information system for various statistics and geoprocessing involving spatial data querying and analysis.
The use of various programming languages, data, grades, and rational decision making in this project brought me closer to the applications of data modeling and shaped my analytical thinking.
I started my career as a security consultant and was actively involved in user access analysis, identifying gaps in auditing reports, and worked with the internal control team to resolve audit conflicts to stabilize projects and reduce any underlying issues.
Later, I worked for one of the four biggest consulting firms, where I wrote a few business development assignments. The required skill set for the various projects I worked on included analysis and molding numbers.
In my current job I interact with client users from various countries such as USA, China and Netherland infinitum, resolve their issues by coordinating technical things from India. I’ve been actively involved in analyzing and effectively strategizing with regard to business goals, deadlines, shadings, budgets, resources and team coordination.
Additionally, we constantly brainstorm automation ideas to reduce manual intervention. So, I realized that I needed to enhance my analytical thinking and intellect, and that can only be done through an artificial intelligence and data science coursein data science.
Question 3: What all tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at Accredian so far?
Aditi: Currently, I am comfortable using Python for exploratory data analysis.
Question 4: What were some of the initial challenges when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Aditi: As I always had an interest in coding and learned various programming languages like C, C++, Java ECGS, I was pretty familiar with the concepts and had strong logic for coding. The only challenge I faced was to remember functions because there were many new functions back then, and reduce multi-language quotes to single lines. So I did prepare a list of all commonly used functions with their descriptions, and revised them every day. This helped me speed up while working on projects under the artificial intelligence and data science course at Accredian.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from him the Most?
Aditi: This is a bit difficult question to answer as all the faculties at Accredian are so knowledgeable and patient. I believe all of them put a lot of effort in teaching the concepts. And during the artificial intelligence and data science course, I actually enhanced my capabilities to ask the right question so that I can drill down the data and extract the required information.
Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?
Aditi: The goal of data science is to retrieve meaningful information from the data available to us to optimize business decisions, goals and operations.
Question 7: In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Aditi: Currently, people across the world are continuously generating tons of data everyday which needs to be analyzed for business development. But we don’t have that many resources or time to work on such huge data manually. And, that’s how data science and machine learning came into the picture. And, so that all data stored can be analyzed and utilized accurately, more companies are now adopting machine learning and AI models to automate the basic work and optimize business.
Question 8: What are the current trends in Data Science that you are most excited about?
Aditi: I constantly look into the various responsibilities of a data scientist to know more about the job. I am also excited about the advancement of AI, especially, as now diverse AI models are being deployed everywhere – from hotel to automobiles. Interestingly, we will also be able to see how the combined forces of data science and AI cater to several businesses and industries in this hour of the pandemic in which most of us are minimizing human touch to perform day to day activities.
Question 9: Which are some of the blogs that you follow?
Aditi: I follow articles on Medium and a few data science groups on LinkedIn, such as Data Science, Women in Data Science, etc. I am also following all Accredian articles published on LinkedIn.
Question 10: What is your advice to anyone wanting to start a career in Data Science?
Aditi: To start a career in data science, you should, first, be genuinely interested in it. You should neither opt for it out of peer pressure or just because it includes high-paying jobs. Understand that an artificial intelligence and data science course will take time to master the subject and cannot be accomplished in a day.
You need to put equal effort from your side. And, once you master it, the path to your becoming a data scientist will automatically be cleared – a straight journey without any hurdles. So, it’s important that when you start your data science journey through any artificial intelligence and data science course, you must devote your time and energy to it.
