In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Pooja V, a Team Lead at Benchmark & Indices. Her insatiable passion for knowledge and upskilling led her to enroll in the Global Certificate in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence program at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program are you a part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Pooja: I am a part of the GCDAI program and working at London Stock Exchange as a Team Leader. I work as a part of Indices and have been involved in data management, customer management, and project management.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Pooja: I have been a part of the LSEG for the past 7 years and have worked on Data management of Derivatives and indices. We source data from different exchanges like CME, BSE, NSE, NYSE, etc, and provide real-time and historical data on our products.
I deal with a lot of data in my day-to-day tasks, thus looking forward to brushing up my skills in Machine Learning and Data Science. Hence, decided to take up a course at Accredian.
Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered at Accredian so far?
Pooja: I have started working with Python and R. Since I come from a non-coding background, it takes a little extra effort for me to ace the concepts and tools.
Question 4: What challenges did you face when you started your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Pooja: Since I am from a non-coding background, it was difficult to understand initially. However, doing projects and referring to Accredian resources has really made it easy for me.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them?
Pooja: My favorite Instructors are Suchit and Sayan. Suchit is patient and clarifies each and every query in detail and with a lot of real-time examples.
Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?
Pooja: Data science aims to analyze the existing data and use insights to improve businesses or find new business opportunities in the market.
Question 7: How has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Pooja: Data Science has evolved over the years across industries and there is a lot of scope in every business where it can be used.
Question 8: What current trends in Data Science are you most excited about?
Pooja: Data scientists are constantly learning their way through data every day. The exciting elements of the Data Science journey are discovery, insights, and innovation. The challenging elements of discipline offer Data Scientists an amazing opportunity to expand their skill set to reach the best possible outcomes.
Question 9: Which Data Science blogs do you follow?
Pooja: I follow Towards Data Science, Data Science Central, and Accredian blogs for expanding my knowledge.
Question 10: What advice would you give to a beginner in Data Science?
Pooja: I would suggest a beginner improve coding and problem-solving skills. It requires practice and hard work to master various concepts and datasets.
