In talks with Karimulla Shaik from TCS

In this INSAID Spotlight interview, we feature Karimulla Shaik, Enterprise Data Architect, Tata Consultancy Services. His urge for continuous learning and evolution in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence led him to enroll in the Global Certificate in Data Science & AI program at INSAID.

Question 1: Which program & batch are you a part of at INSAID & tell us more about your current work profile?

Karimulla: I am a part of the Global Certificate in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence October 2020 cohort. I am an Enterprise Data Architect specializing in Data transformation and skilled in client management and expertise in delivering innovative solutions with core Insurance, Retail, and Banking domain knowledge.

Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?

Karimulla: I have been working as an Enterprise Data tech to modernize the Data landscapes and design roadmaps for Data transformation. I have played various roles in my career from being a Data Analyst, Engineer, Modeler, and now to an Architect and have built various large-scale data warehouses. 

Since I’ve seen the evolution of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning it has always motivated me to continue upskilling and be at par with the emerging technological trends.

Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered at INSAID so far?

Karimulla: I have learned Python and its various packages like NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, and Seaborn. In Statistics, I’ve mastered Exploratory Data Analysis. Additionally, various Machine Learning models, like Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, and Random Forest.

Question 4: What challenges did you face when you started your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?

Karimulla: Being a working professional, time management was one big challenge that I faced but I used to ensure 100% attendance in classes and tried completing all End term projects. I also faced difficulty in understanding various concepts nevertheless I continued working hard and going through the INSAID content.

Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at INSAID and what did you learn from them?

Karimulla: I believe that everyone has their own unique teaching methodology.

At INSAID, every faculty is an expert in teaching and narration of concepts. I’ve always loved attending classes conducted by Suchit, Abhinav, Darshan, and Deepesh. 

Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?

Karimulla: The goal of Data Science is to extract meaningful insights from the given Data which helps the customers to enhance profitability in business growth and productivity.

Question 7: How has Data Science evolved over the last few years?

Karimulla: Data Science has evolved a lot in the last few years and this evolution is visible across industries, like Manufacturing, Retail, BFSI, Aviation, Healthcare, Medicine, and the list is endless. With the advent of Digitalisation, each Industry is getting revolutionized with the tools of emerging Data Science & AI.

Question 8: What current trends in Data Science are you most excited about?

Karimulla: I am really excited about the trends like Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Face Recognition by following the Data protection guidelines, Emergency assistance, Automation, Flying Cars, and Autonomous Vehicles. I’m fascinated by the early detection of diseases in the Healthcare sector as well.

Question 9: Which Data Science blogs do you follow?

Karimulla: The blogs I passionately follow are Medium, Inside Big Data, and McKinsey.

Question 10: What advice would you give to a beginner in Data Science?

Karimulla: Data Science & AI is transforming Industry and creating a huge economic value.

A beginner must accumulate knowledge, be thorough with all concepts, and have hands-on practice in the domain. Taking up a course at INSAID and following the curriculum will be highly beneficial.
