In talks with Obulesh from Smaart Digital, Dubai I Accredian Spotlight

In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Obulesh who is an ERP consultant at Smaart Digital, Dubai. He has been passionate about learning Data Science since the beginning of his MBA program and after which has joined Accredian to upskill himself.

Question 1: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?

I am a part of the GCDAI program, 2018, and am very comfortable with Python, Machine Learning, Tableau, Power BI.

I am an ERP consultant at my current company. I apply certain automations and Power BI reports in the finance domain, which is reducing the reconciliation times, account reconciliations for 6 Yrs and enhancing the Oracle EBS system.

Question 2: Walk us through your career journey and what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?

I completed my MBA from SK University and have been interested in the field of Data Science all along. I am more interested in Machine learning, Artificial Intelligence and Analytics by Power Bi and Tableau tools.

Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered at Accredian so far?

I have mastered the basic tools like Python, Power BI and Tableau till now. Along with my solid SQL, PL/SQL background it was easy to understand Machine Learning concepts.

Question 4: What challenges did you face when you started your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?

There were many challenges initially and now learning every new concept is a challenge in itself. Understanding python packages and their concepts was tough as well. To overcome this, I went through blogs, videos and sometimes connected with the Accredian support team as well.

Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them? 

I really enjoyed learning all the concepts from Accredian Tutors, I really enjoyed the skill of Suchit, the way he explains and the English he uses is very simple and clear for all. Deepesh explained Machine Learning concepts very clearly. Amit had also helped with understanding and usage of Tableau as a reporting tool.

Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?

For me, the goal of Data Science is about solving business problems, improving the sales and profit, minimising the man hours and effective usage of resources. Finding out business loopholes and providing the appropriate correction plans.

Question 7: How has Data Science evolved in the last few years?

As the business expands across countries and domains, in terms of customers and branding, it’s always too difficult to find what is happening in the business and how it’s moving ahead.

Data Science will provide such insights of the entire business process and will help find the loopholes. Gathering data from an Excel sheet to apply complicated packages and analytical tools helps to solve business problems. 

Question 8: What current trends in Data Science are you most excited about?

I am mostly excited about how simple visualisation tools such as Power BI and Tableau are helping with many interactive dashboards along with drill down facility to understand the problems from root cause to its impact. Many automations simplify the business processes.

Question 9: Which Data Science blogs do you follow?

I follow blog pages called Stackoverflow and Real python.

Question 10: What is your advice to a Data Science beginner?

I strongly believe that the career in Data Science is not limited to any particular domain. If we are knowledgeable, we can solve business problems from any domain. We can automate business processes in the same manner as well.
