In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Pavan B, a Lead Engineer with over 12 years years of experience, currently working with Quest Global. His insatiable passion for knowledge and fascination for Data Science led him to enroll in the Global Certificate in Data Science program at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Pavan: I am from the Global Certification in Data Science, January 2021 cohort. I have a total of 12 years of work experience in Software testing and in the automotive infotainment domain.
Currently, I’m working in Quest Global as a Lead Engineer. My roles and responsibilities include flashing the test bench with the test software and other supporting software, verifying for the software correctness, reporting and fixing errors, etc.
Question 2: What got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Pavan: Initially, most of the Data collection and analysis was done manually. We found out how the tools and libraries could further simplify it. This got me interested in the field of Data Science and Machine Learning.
Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered at Accredian so far?
Pavan: Some of the tools that I have learned are Python, Tableau, R, Pandas (for data analysis), Sci-kit Learn (features Machine Learning algorithms like Random Forest, and Matplotlib.
Question 4: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them?
Pavan: During my GCD course, I have learned from 5 instructors and a few guest instructors. All of them had a good hold over their subject and taught well. It would unfair to pick any one particular instructor.
Still, I would like to mention Suchit Majumdar, Deepesh Wadhwani, and, Amit who have been fabulous with their teaching and interaction.
Question 5: What is the goal of Data Science?
Pavan: The goal of Data Science is to derive meaningful insights from a seemingly boring dataset. Some of the datasets are maybe huge in terms of records, samples, size. Some of them be gibberish to a plain set of eyes. We need to extract meaningful insights from it, provide those insights to target companies, to implement useful solutions to the everyday problems that we face.
Question 6: Which Data Science blogs do you follow?
Pavan: I follow KD Nuggets, Analytics Vidhya and Accredian website have a big repository of Data.
Question 7: What advice would you give to a beginner in Data Science?
Pavan: I would like to say that a beginner must have a thorough understanding of the basic concepts, gather a lot of information, and refer to the content provided by Accredian. Since it may be a different domain from what you have been doing so far, it requires extra effort.
