Malvika: Hi Shweta, before we begin, could you tell us more about your current work profile and your career trajectory so far?
Shweta: Currently, I have 8 years of experience in the IT-industry retail domain. For 6 years I’ve been working as an Oracle PL SQL Developer, and then as a Data Analyst for 1 year.
Now I’ve requested to be relieved from my project and moving into the Data Analytics unit of the same organization so that I work in Machine Learning areas.
Malvika: What all tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at Accredian so far?
Shweta: I’ve learned basic packages like NumPy, Pandas, Seaborn and Matplotlib.
Malvika: Are there any projects you have undertaken?
Shweta: There is a smart car parking analysis project.
This is a project where we try to provide employees with free slots, which are displayed on an LED screen. We try to provide the slot and then to send him a message after parking that your car’s parked there.
So that while returning it’s easy for him to locate and we are also trying to predict the behavior of where the employee usually parks.
Malvika: What are some of the initial challenges you faced when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Shweta: I have a kid at home so to manage time between both work and studies was difficult in the beginning and I used to study at midnight. Slowly, I developed momentum and things fell into place.
Malvika: Accredian’s mission is to Groom Data Leaders of tomorrow. What do you understand by a Data Leader? And how is a Data Leader different from a Data Scientist?
Shweta: They’re different from each other totally. A Data Leader is one who manages the data and leads Data Scientists.
Data Scientist is the one who knows the project well and who determines what is the input and what should be the output.
Malvika: Crafting a great Data Science resume is a critical part of getting shortlisted for Data Science roles. Tell us some ways in which you have improved your resume as part of Data Science Career Launchpad.
Shweta: After 8 years, drafting a Data Science resume for a totally new field was challenging. The sessions helped me a lot in understanding things like how to write an objective of the resume and the keywords that should be used.
Malvika: How has your journey with Accredian been so far? Do you have any comments on how the curriculum has been structured, the faculty and the support team?
Shweta: So far, it’s been wonderful and there’s a long way to go, too.
I really like Deepesh for his unique teaching style. His art of teaching is excellent.
