Working in the finance and accounting domain, Vineeta Nair realized the importance and necessity of data science in it. And, that’s why, without waiting any further she looked up data science course online and enrolled for the Global Certificate in Data Science (GCD) program at Accredian.
In this interview, let’s take a look at how she plans to implement her data science learnings in the sector of finance and how her experience has been at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Vineeta: I’m part of the Global Certificate in Data Science (GCD) program, March 2020 cohort. I am from the finance and accounting domain, and I am currently working at DHL Global Forwarding & Freight LLP.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Vineeta: The domain I am working in, finance and accounting, is a very distinct domain to pursue data science. However, for the past two years now, I have switched from finance operations to project management for finance. And, that’s what got me interested in data science and machine learning. Data science currently is in, and I think one should upskill and upkeep along with the current market trend. Data science or ML needs are and will be critical requirements for everyone irrespective of the domain they work in and that’s why pursuing a data science course online is necessary for any professional.
Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at Accredian so far?
Vineeta: I am still in my learning phase in my data science course online. I can now use Python and the Jupyter notebook. I understand it well and know how to extract packages like NumPy, Pandas, and a few other ML packages and work with them.
Question 4: What are some initial challenges when you got started on your Data Science journey, and how did you overcome them?
Vineeta: Well, I’m from a non-coding and non-statistics background. And that was my biggest challenge. I’ve been reading and following many reference articles on Stack Overflow, GitHub, Kaggle for data science. So the work is in progress.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian, and what did you learn from him the Most?
Vineeta: My favorite faculty at Accredian is Suchit Majumdar. The way he explains the topic with humorous anecdotes is fantastic. I learned the basics of Python coding and statistics from him during my data science course online at Accredian and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?
Vineeta: The goal of data science is to create actionable insights from raw data, which helps scale a business or an organization.
Question 7: Which are some of the blogs that you follow?
Vineeta: I regularly follow Accredian on LinkedIn and YouTube. Apart from that, vlogs from data professors are really awesome. And, I also read any good article I stumble upon, especially the ones that are from any data science website.
Question 8: What is your advice to anyone wanting to start a career in Data Science?
Vineeta: Though I myself am a learner and very much new in this field, my advice to someone wanting to start a career but doesn’t have a coding background would be to start now. Do not delay or keep it in the back burner. It’s important that you move along with the current market trends and data science is one of the best choices in the coming years.
