After being a staffing professional for 20 years, Suresh Kumar wanted to go for a career change. Intrigued by all the buzz around data analytics, he looked it up, came across Data Science, and instantly knew where his next career was awaiting him. In this interview, let’s see his take on the growing necessity of data science amongst businesses and how his learning experience has been at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Suresh: I am part of the Certificate in Data Science Foundation (CDF) program, July 2020 batch. I am currently working as a Business Unit Head.
My profile is basically to develop a comprehensive marketing sales strategy for client engagement. It is staffing and solution services tailored to businesses through effective pre-sales and PVC and its prototypes.
I’m also involved in customized strategizing for clients to lead six conversions, increase revenue and optimize ROI. I’ve been working with multiple clients like Incrivelsoft, CBRE, Suniksha Infotech, Technomax, Absyz, OSI Consulting, Boston Logix, and more.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Suresh: I have been a staffing professional throughout my career. The current trend of data analytics got me interested in data science and machine learning. Having 20 years of experience in the industry, I’ve seen the complete lifecycle of recruitment, project management, etc. So, I thought data science and machine learning would be an advantage for me to get into this domain and go for a career transition. So, I chose to study for the data science tutorial course that I have chosen for at Accredian.
Question 3: What all tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at Accredian so far?
Suresh: At Accredian’s data science tutorial, I’ve learned the basics of Statistics, Mathematics, Python, NumPy, Pandas Matplotlib, Seaborn.
Question 4: What were some of the initial challenges when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Suresh: My initial challenge was understanding basic programming language. But I have a fair idea of mathematics and statistics. Since I also have a vast experience in multiple domains like banking, finance, healthcare, recruitment, etc., I thought the course would not be that difficult.
However, despite the initial hiccups, I practiced what was taught here for three to four hours daily. I worked on the programming languages, their various libraries, coding, datasets etc., and gradually I got better.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from him the Most?
Suresh: My favorite faculty is Mr. Deepesh, who is very calm and patient with all the students.
Question 6: In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Suresh: Data science has evolved drastically in the last few years. People talk a lot about data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Several businesses are also implementing them, which automatically is generating multiple jobs in the market. This will grow more and these need to be protected. Data is intrinsic to all industries, and data science offers efficient ways to extract and interpret them so that business processes and decisions can be better optimized. I think that’s why it is one of the most sought after and well-paying jobs right now. And this is why I am upskilling at Accredian’s data science tutorial course.
Question 7: Which are some of the blogs that you follow?
Suresh: I follow Medium and Kaggle. These two, for me, are the best blogs. And, I also follow Accredian blogs.
Question 8: What is your advice to anyone wanting to start a career in Data Science?
Suresh: Data is intrinsic to any organization, irrespective of its industry and your job role in it. So I suggest everybody get into data science tutorial as well as learn machine learning, and artificial intelligence so that you can build your AI or ML models and execute them in your organization.
