Working in one of the leading companies in the Semiconductor industry, Sukruth HV looked for efficient ways to reduce the number of emulator runs while working with pre silicon and wanted to leverage data science and machine learning models for it. And, while researching on how to go about upskilling, he came across Accredian and enrolled for the Global Certificate in Data Science & AI (GCDAI) program.
In this interview, let’s what he thinks about the evolution of data science and how his experience has been at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Sukruth: I am part of the Global Certificate in Data Science & AI (GCDAI) program, March 2020 batch. I work as a staff software engineer and work on performance analysis of the various processes of Arm.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Sukruth: Soon after graduating in engineering, I started my career journey with Intel. Right from the beginning, I started on big data analytics, that is using the ETL methodologies to do data validation, data cleansing. And then I became a full time employee in Intel working on the compiler support and on its performance analysis.
After six and a half years, I just moved to Arm to get to know more about embedded and mobile processors in which Arm is the leading company. And that is where I started working upon performance analysis on polysilicon.
But oftentimes what happens in pre silicon is that we have to do a lot of the runs on the emulator, which is quite costly. So that is where we started thinking about how we can leverage data science or the machine learning models to do the regression analysis and get us more data or more intuitive prediction so that we can lessen the number of runs.
And that’s how I got interested in data science and machine learning and started implementing some of the models to basically reduce the overall runs that we have to do on our emulators.
Question 3: What all tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at Accredian so far?
Sukruth: As part of the GCDAI program with Accredian so far, I think it’s been really a great journey because our mentors have been really taking us through the concepts rather than just programming stuff.
I think you can get the programming stuff wherever you want. You have ample amount of resources, but one thing that is good about Accredian is to teach each of these concepts and then the maths and the intuition behind each of these concepts.
So, I would say I have mastered the basics and the various ML models we have like linear regression or any sort of regression classification methodologies. I understand now how the old machine learning concepts have been laid in.
Because previously, it was really a mess when I wanted to understand about supervised and unsupervised, and on what basis they are going to really categorize this. But now I think I have a pretty good understanding about what these concepts are, how do you classify them and how do you do the analysis and so forth.
Question 4: What were some of the initial challenges when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Sukruth: I think for most of us the initial challenge when we get started with data science or machine learning was where to start from. I mean, data science is like a vast ocean and you don’t know where to start or how to layout the process in a very timely manner or in a very dedicated manner. That’s where I started researching about where I can get the sort of structure learning, came across Accredian and started my data science journey.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from him the Most?
Sukruth: I came across three different faculty members and I think I was fortunate enough to really learn a lot of things from all three different faculties. Be it Suchit, Neelmani or Deepesh. I think all of them have their unique style of teaching. And really, I like their perseverance and their level of knowledge. For example, when Suchit taught us about Python, he gave us a lot of insights about how to go deeper into each of these concepts. So I think each of them had a different set of teaching styles and everyone of them was really good at what they were teaching.
Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?
Sukruth: The goal of data science would be to analyze the various problems we have in society and try to come up with automated solutions to help humanity.
Question 7: In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Sukruth: I think data science, machine learning and AI, have been having a lot of attraction and everywhere, you could see a lot of advertisements coming up. There are about 50 to 60% of data science and machine learning vacancies that have been present in the market right now.
So you could see the amount of necessity that has been there in the past few years, and I think it’s going to evolve for the next at least one decade. In my understanding, be it data science, machine learning or AI, it’s taking a leap in the future. So it’s going to be one of the biggest things that’s going to be evolving given the next few years.
Question 8: What are the current trends in Data Science that you are most excited about?
Sukruth: There are a lot of good things happening around data science, machine learning and AI. But one thing that really seems to be very good is the current trend about how the COVID situation is being handled via data science.
I definitely think it’s not an easy task for anyone or any data scientist to handle such highly variant data, but then that seems to be very exciting as well, like how are these data scientists going to leverage the data, develop the required metrics and figure out the highs and the lows.
Apart from that, I think the evolution of GPT in the past three years seems to have also been pretty interesting. The way it’s been automating things seems to be scary at times, but at the same time, it’s also very exciting to see what exactly can be done there. And, it also opens up a lot of opportunities for all irrespective of anyone being a coder or non-coder. I think if you have an idea, you can evolve a solution using a model easily.
