Subbukutty S is a huge admirer of automated vehicles. And, hailing from the automotive industry and understanding the significant impact of data science and machine learning, he didn’t want to wait more to learn more about data science skills and soon enrolled for the Global Certificate in Data Science (GCD) at Accredian.
In this interview, Subbukutty expresses his take on data science and how his learning experience has been at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Subbukutty: I am part of the Global Certificate in Data Science (GCD) program, August 2020 batch. Currently, I am working in the Technology and Data Center located in Chennai and working as a design engineer. My job roles and responsibilities are to design and develop the schematic of the Dynamical which includes creating electronic and electrical components located called paths.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Subbukutty: As I’m working in the automotive industry, I am most interested in automobile makers and self-driving cars. Artificial intelligence and machine learning has exponentially grown in the automotive industry. During my college days itself, one of the projects which I had was on solar operated automated vehicles and automated lawn mowers based on sensors located in the vortex that Robert used for independent automatic runs. It is used for non-voting purposes.
In my career I got more interested in automated vehicles which are like self-driven cars and automated driver assistance systems. This kind of machine learning & machine learning applications pulled me more towards artificial intelligence followed by Alcott. I got to know about data science, which is fundamental for the basics of machine learning and artificial intelligence and I think it has evolved significantly in the past decade. So, I further decided to take up the course on data science and sharpen my data science skills.
Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at Accredian so far?
Subbukutty: So far, I have learned Python and data analytics. I was very much interested to learn Python. So it was entertaining, and in that I, specifically, enjoyed NumPy and Pandas. I have completed Python programming and I am currently in town looking forward to learning much more data science skills.
Question 4: What are some initial challenges when you got started on your Data Science journey, and how did you overcome them?
Subbukutty: When I started the data science course, I was not well versed in Python although I already knew about C, C++, Excel and Macro. However, with each session I got to learn many new packages and models and as I executed them on Python sample programs, things got stable and it became more interesting. Apart from that, data analytics, exploratory database and data interpretation was also a bit difficult initially but with regular and rigorous practice I got a lot better.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian, and what did you learn from him the Most?
Subbukutty: My favorite faculty at Accredian who helped me sharpen my data science skills is, of course, Sai. He exhibits a comprehensive way of teaching and simplifies concepts that are, in general, pretty hard to grasp in one go.
Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?
Subbukutty: Data science identifies and analyzes large amounts of data, which is often used in almost every industry, from automotive industry to marketing, etc. It is playing a pivotal role in the recent years. Although its application varies from industry to industry, its basic role of interpreting data is utilized throughout for improved decision making and optimizing business functionality. That’s why data science skills are also so necessary nowadays.
Question 7: What are the current trends in Data Science that you are most excited about?
Subbukutty: Artificial intelligence, natural language processing, conversational analytics, continuous intelligence, automation and Big Data are some of the major trends in data science that interest me the most. I hope to learn more about them and hone my data science skills.
This was a conversation with one of our GCD students – Subbukutty S.
