From the moment he heard about data science in 2017, Kannadhasan Alagappan aspired to master it and pursue data science as a career. After three years, the COVID 19 lockdown finally gave him the opportunity to go for a full-fledged data science training. So, without further ado he enrolled for the Global Certificate in Data Science (GCD) program at Accredian.
In this interview, lets checkout what piqued his curiosity the most about data science and how has his learning experience been at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Kannadhasan: I enrolled in the Global Certificate in Data Science (GCD) program at Accredian and I am currently working with Tata Consultancy Services since 2018. My responsibilities in the company involve enforcing the Application Management Process.
After completing my engineering in B.Tech Information Technology back in 2004, I joined Polaris Software Lab Private Limited in 2005 in Chennai. I was involved in Oracle for development and support.
After 3 years I joined I-Flex (later acquired by Oracle and named Oracle Financial Services Software Limited) in 2008. I was involved in the development, support, and implementation of the application.
In 2013, I joined Emerio GlobeSoft Ltd in Singapore and supported application infrastructure projects for anti-money laundering.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Kannadhasan: I started my IT career back in 2005 and worked in different technologies and roles supporting back-end technologies development and support. Around 2017, I started hearing about data science and from then on I wanted to know and learn more about the field. I am always curious about new technological advancements and data science is definitely at the top of my list. The lockdown has proved to be a boon that way as it has given me the time to take up a professional course on data science training.
Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at Accredian so far?
Kannadhasan: So far in the data science training at Accredian, I have learned Python and its packages like Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib, and currently, I am starting to learn about Machine Learning.
Question 4: What are some initial challenges when you got started on your Data Science journey, and how did you overcome them?
Kannadhasan: Choosing the right institute for data science training was a major challenge for me. I scuttled through the internet to find the right one and then finally chose Accredian. Apart from that, at the beginning of the program, it was difficult for me to grasp and understand new concepts and technologies in one go but with interest and involvement, I made it.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian, and what did you learn from him the Most?
Kannadhasan: Deepesh was my faculty for Term 1 and Term 2, and I liked his coaching. Just starting with Term 3 with Darshan and need some time to comment on his coaching.
Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?
Kannadhasan: The goal of data science is to construct the means for extracting business-focused insights from data. This requires an understanding of how value and information flow in a business and how to use that understanding to identify business opportunities.
Question 7: In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Kannadhasan: I started hearing about data science in 2017, and now I see a lot of data science training resources and job opportunities. Almost every industry needs data science knowledge right now. India is investing a lot of money in the field of data science and artificial intelligence.
Question 8: What are the current trends in Data Science that you are most excited about?
Kannadhasan: Python, the most used programming language in the field of data science, really excites me and also cloud-based Big Data science.
Question 9: Which are some of the blogs that you follow?
Kannadhasan: I am following the data science articles and blog in Medium for now.
Question 10: What is your advice to anyone wanting to start a career in Data Science?
Kannadhasan: I would advise them to choose the right data science institute for the perfect data science training as you would need good faculties to understand new concepts. Also pay attention to the details of the course you opt for and prepare yourselves well for data science jobs.
