Rendezvous with Amit Kharche from Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Amit Kharche, a Certified Data Science Professional experienced in Procurement, Planning, Execution, and SCM Operations in the Automobile Industry. Amit is a Non-Programmer with an insatiable passion for knowledge and zeal to work with Data led him to enroll in the PGP Data Science & AI program at Accredian.

Question 1: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?

Amit: I am a part of the PGP DS & AI program May 21 cohort. Currently, I am working as a Manager at Mahindra & Mahindra.

Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?

Amit: I have been working in the purchasing domain in Automobile Industry for the last 11 years. I work with a lot of Data, manage inventory cost reduction, freight cost reduction, iron car purchasing, small sub-projects, etc. Looking at my interest in Data gathering and analysis, I was nominated for launching the AI project in our organization. While working with the Blue Yonder project I realized that I could do much more in the field of Data Science and hence I joined Accredian.

Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered?

Amit: I have worked on coding language Python and used packages like NumPy, Pandas. I have also worked on Data processing through Python packages.

I got skilled while working with EDA, Matplotlib, and Seabourn for modeling. I’m currently working on Jupyter and Google Collab workbooks

Question 4: What challenges did you face when you got started with your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?

Amit: I faced major challenges as I was from a non-programming background. After having 11 years of work experience in the Manufacturing Industry, I joined the Accredian program and started my learning journey with confidence. The trainers and videos are very good and one can learn easily

Another challenge was to manage time for learning due to my busy office working hours so, I followed the recorded sessions and stretched my time at night to practice.

Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them the most?

Amit: I consider Suchit and Darshan my favorites.

I overcame the fear of being a non-programmer and started working with Python and Statistics. Their way of teaching and sharing a lot of examples made my learning curve easy.

Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?

Amit: The goal of Data Science is to extract actionable insights from available data which can help businesses to run better and can help to identify new business opportunities and add a lot of value to the existing business activities.

Question 7: How has Data Science evolved in the last few years?

Amit: A few years back, we hardly knew about Data Science. Nowadays, every major organization is investing in projects for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence to create new business opportunities. For instance, One-to-one marketing is possible with the help of Data Science.

Question 8: What current trends in Data Science are you most excited about?

Amit: Python has become the most popular language for Data Scientists, Auto ML.  Companies are heavily investing and buying Auto ML tools and services. NLP Cloud-based services have become the new norm. Augmented analysis, Artificial Intelligence in cybersecurity can address major security loopholes.

Question 9: Which are some of the blogs that you follow?

Amit: I usually follow Analytics Vidhya, Towards Data Science, Accredian Vlogs, and various other content on the net.

Question 10: What is your advice to a beginner in the field of Data Science?

Amit: My advice to those who want to start a career in Data Science will be to do a SWOT analysis to map strengths and weaknesses. Only if you find your passion and your strength in numbers and Data go ahead and take a leap.
