In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Gaurav Kalra, a leading General Manager at Teknix Elevators Pvt. Ltd. His insatiable passion for knowledge and upskilling led him to enroll in the Certificate in Data Science Foundation at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Gaurav: I am pursuing the Certificate in Data Science Foundation program, July 2021 batch. I am a General Manager of client acquisition at an Elevator designing and manufacturing organization and responsible for meeting or surpassing the sales target while managing a sales team. Apart from sales, I’m also shouldering and formulating all Marketing and Branding activities.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Gaurav: I position myself to be a problem solver and seasoned Business Development professional. With more than 20 years of experience in handling B2B and B2C clients, my passion for Data has been immense and it led to enrolling in a program at Accredian.
Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered at Accredian so far?
Gaurav: I have strengthened and reinforced my understanding of Statistics in the Data Science journey so far.
Question 4: What challenges did you face when you started your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Gaurav: As I started my journey in Data science I faced initial challenges with Statistics and Python. However, the starter kits have played an important role in overcoming this challenge. And it surely helped to brush up my statistics skills and learn basic Python programming.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them?
Gaurav: The best faculty I’ve come across is Mr. Deepesh Wadhwani. I appreciate his style of sizing up the group of starters and experienced professionals at the same level and imparting the education in a very simple form, making the concepts clear and easy.

Gaurav: I follow Analytics Vidhya, Towards Data Science and Analytics India Magazine.
Question 7: What advice would you give to a beginner in Data Science?
Gaurav: My advice to people who are interested in starting their career in Data Science is to understand that it is an exciting and interesting field. It shall help them to explore the world of challenges and problems around them. And by a logical and scientific approach, one can seek its support for solving problems and decision making.
