In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Smitha N Prakash, Bio-Medical Engineer, content creator, and an aspiring Data Scientist. She joined Accredian to accumulate knowledge and skills in the field of Data Science & AI.
Question 1: What is your current work profile? Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Smitha: I have completed Medical Electronics and currently work with the healthcare sector. My day-to-day activities involve content creation, Digital Marketing, and creating unlabeled data, and deriving insights for further decision making.
The tools used in Digital Marketing to capture insights and make data structured were excellent and got me intrigued. Eventually, after getting introduced to Data Analysis, I’m trying to visualize things from a different perspective.
Question 2: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian?
Smitha: I enrolled in Global Certificate in Data Science (GCD) program in February 2021. My journey in Data Science actually started in 2009 while pursuing engineering. What really got me interested in Data Science was my work profile and how Data Science is connected to the healthcare sector. The second inspiration to pursue a career in Data Science and Machine Learning was the rise of Artificial Intelligence.
Question 3: What challenges did you face in your Data Science journey? How did you overcome them?
Smitha: I think there’s no interesting journey without challenges. Yes, there was a break when I had to switch from writing to a career in programming. But studying materials provided by Accredian helped me overcome the initial tough phase.
Question 4: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them the most?
Smitha: At Accredian, everyone has an interesting way of explaining. Some faculty members used multiple examples to explain concepts. Sharon was my favorite faculty as she always helped me clear my doubts.
Question 5: What is the goal of Data Science?
Smitha: The world of data has tremendous reach. As I’m starting from scratch, my goal towards Data Science is to learn and extract business-focused insights from data. However, my ultimate goal is to discover new ways related to Data Science in the healthcare sector.
Question 6: In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Smitha: Data Science has evolved beyond our expectations and many concepts and Data Science applications are still unknown. It is predicted that in the future every company will be an AI company.
