In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Shubhangi Deepak Sohoni, a Senior Manager at Ambuja Cement Foundation. Her insatiable passion for working with Data and the need to gather knowledge and upskilling led her to enroll in the Global Certification in Data Science program at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Shubhangi: I am a part of the Global certificate in Data Science program, August 2020 cohort. I have been associated with Ambuja Cement Foundation since June 2014 and presently I’m working as a Senior Manager monitoring and evaluation. I am also looking after the Community Development Program of education in my present role. My major role is to handle Data for various community development programs and projects across working territory and give Insights to the respective Program heads and Regional heads.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Shubhangi: I started my professional career as a state-level monitoring officer with the Government of Gujarat for the HIV AIDS Project in 2002. Since then Data collection, cleaning, and analysis have become a part of my life. Over 17 years of professional experience my major role is to develop various programs, monitoring indicators, and frameworks of management information systems to capture Data and update Industry demands. Thus, I decided to enroll in a course at Accredian.
Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered at Accredian so far?
Shubhangi: I have learned many new concepts of Python programming, Machine Learning tools, and the use of various Algorithms which would really enhance my current skills at work.
Question 4: What challenges did you face when you started your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Shubhangi: Time management was a big constraint yet I overcame it by studying and practicing regularly at the weekends. Reviewing notes, listening to recorded sessions really helped me.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them?
Shubhangi: My favorite faculty is Suchit Majumdar.
Suchit’s way of teaching and explaining concepts is very simple and informative. His temperament is cool and composed which is extremely helpful for the students.
Question 6: How has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Shubhangi: Data Science is known as the field of Statistics and Programming. The techniques of Data Science are being adopted in the fields of Healthcare, Finance, Retail, and Production. This helps Industries to work with Big Data and get immediate Insights from regular businesses to produce faster results.
Question 7: What current trends in Data Science are you most excited about?
Shubhangi: I’m really fascinated with the field of Artificial Intelligence as various Industries are making use of it. Data Science is now embedded in the regular routine life of human beings. Eg. During the pandemic of Coronavirus Data Science techniques have been used for checking the positivity of cases through voice modulation as one can recognize whether the person is affected with Coronavirus.
Question 8: Which Data Science blogs do you follow?
Shubhangi: I follow scholars on LinkedIn, GitHub, and Kaggle to learn more about various Machine Learning applications across industries.
Question 9: What advice would you give to a beginner in Data Science?
Shubhangi: Data science is the need of the current and the future generation so any beginner who is handling Data on day to day basis will surely get benefitted if he adopts the new techniques of Data Science. Moreover, accumulating knowledge and working with practical tools can be the starting point to excel in the professional journey
