In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Rajeev Ranjan, a Power BI Developer professional currently working with Mindtree Limited. His insatiable passion for knowledge and upskilling led him to enroll in the Certificate in Data Science Foundation program at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Rajeev: I am from CDF July 2021 Batch. I am currently working as Power BI Developer at Mindtree Limited. I am responsible for creating business strategies and converting them into better visuals and graphics that help my organization to understand the services for better decisions.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Rajeev: I started my IT career as Power BI Engineer in Mindtree and was always fascinated with the Database of clients like P&G, PepsiCo, Amazon, and other giant companies. I read about Accredian on Quora and because I was very keen to learn about Visualization using Python I ended up enrolling in the program.
Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered at Accredian so far?
Rajeev: I have learned Python, Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Jupyter Notebook, and Google Collab. In this course, I’ve also learned to create a GitHub account and prepare a repository.
Question 4: What challenges did you face when you started your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Rajeev: I am working on a 24*7 project so, sometimes my classes clash with my office work but I refer to the recorded sessions and practice on the weekends.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them?
Rajeev: My favorite is Deepesh as he led us through the entire training peacefully. He is great at tackling problems with ease.
Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?
Rajeev: Data science is applicable in every field possible from Sports to Medical to Finance. Two fields that extensively use Data Science are Finance and Medical. The possibilities are infinite, and it totally depends on the Industry.
Question 7: How has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Rajeev: Over the years, Data Science has evolved to become more pervasive, and we are now witnessing newbie Business Analysts using various analysis software and methodologies. Another key trend is how the phenomenal growth of Data has pushed traditional Statistical techniques to the fringes and how Deep Learning has revolutionized Computer Science.
American mathematician and Computer Scientist DJ Patil defined it simply:
“A Data Scientist is that unique blend of skills that can both unlock the insights of data and tell a fantastic story via data.”
Question 8: What current trends in Data Science are you most excited about?
Rajeev: I’m excited to explore Natural Language Processing, Python, Auto ML tools, and Cloud-Based Big Data Science.
Question 9: Which Data Science blogs do you follow?
Rajeev: I read many articles from Medium, Quora and watch videos on Accredian YouTube channel as well.
Question 10: What is your advice to a Data Science beginner?
Rajeev: I would like to share the following pointers with beginners-
- Identify your goal in the field of Data Science.
- Diversify your technology portfolio. The most successful Data Scientist uses different approaches to solve different problems.
- Adopt the ideology of faster and efficient design in Python.
- Understanding the end-user is an important part of the job. Be an advisor for identifying business solutions.
