In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Abhay Sarkar, a Finance Manager working with United Health Group, Optum. His insatiable passion for knowledge and upskilling led him to enroll in the Global Certificate in Data Science program at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Abhay: I am part of the Global Certificate in Data Science (GCD) program, May 2021 batch. Currently, I am working as Finance Manager, Healthcare in United Health Group.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Abhay: I have been working for Healthcare clients for the past seven years. As a Finance Manager, my work comprises discussion with clients about their pain points and offering the best solutions.
Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered at Accredian so far?
Abhay: I have majorly worked on the coding language of Python and its various packages like Numpy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn for modeling, Matplotlib for Data Visualization, and Logistic/Linear Regression, and KNN, etc.
I’m yet to explore other coding languages such as R, SAS, and other tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
Question 4: What challenges did you face when you started your Data Science journey and how did you overcome them?
Abhay: Initially I found coding tough but with regular practice, attending live classes, free sessions and blogs have been really helpful.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them?
Abhay: The Instructors at Accredian such as Suchit, Neelmani, Dr. Darshan, and Sayan, are all fabulous.
My favorite part is the bonus round which started with the Q&A doubt clearing sessions. Suchit & Sayan have brilliant ways of explaining concepts with examples.
Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?
Abhay: The goal of Data Science is to implement tools and offer the best business solutions to problems.
Question 7: How has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Abhay: Data Science has evolved in a great way and the world is changing with the power to predict and act for the best possible solutions. Every Industry is getting benefitted from the power of Data Science.
