In talks with with Gayathri from Oracle India Pvt Ltd I Accredian Spotlight

In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Gayathri Gopalsami, a Senior Software Engineer working with Oracle. She is passionate about learning and equips herself with Data Science and Machine Learning skills to leverage her work and reach the peak of success in her dream career in  Data Science & Artificial Intelligence.

Question 1: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?

Gayathri: I am a part of the Postgraduate Program in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence October 2020 cohort. I’m currently working as a Senior Software Engineer at Oracle India Private Limited in the Hospitality Global Business Unit.

Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?

Gayathri:  I transitioned from a Java Developer to Software Developer and joined Cognizant in 2011. Later, in 2016, I got a job offer from Oracle, where I joined as a Senior Software Engineer in the hospitality domain.

While working I was very much intrigued by the new ideas of Data Science & AI and wanted to learn more about so I decided to research online and enroll in a program and my journey at Accredian began.

Question 3: What challenges did you face when you started your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?

Gayathri: I have never faced any issues since I was from a Technical domain and was well versed with coding and Python however It was the vastness of the field that got me worried. Hence, I decided to go through the entire curriculum and be thorough with all the concepts well.

Question 4: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them?

Gayathri: The faculty at Accredian is expert and everyone offers a unique approach to teaching. Personally, I felt so enthusiastic while attending the classes conducted by Suchit, Deepesh, and Amit. 

The faculty is encouraging, motivating and tries to explain concepts in the most precise manner. A lot of times I could recall the concepts without having to go through the recordings. 

Question 5: What current trends in Data Science are you most excited about?

Gayathri: I love Cloud Computing, AWS, and Oracle Cloud. I’d say that Cloud Computing is one solution that can be accessed by Data Scientists around the globe.

Question 6: Which Data Science blogs do you follow?

Gayathri: I mostly read anything that pops up related to Data Science, but I religiously follow Medium, Towards Data Science, and Analytics Vidhya. The multiple YouTube channels that I follow are Corey Schafer, StatQuest with Josh Starmer.

Question 7: What advice would you give a beginner in Data Science?

Gayathri: The field of Data Science & AI requires a lot of patience, passion, and experimentation with multiple strategies and immensely hard work. One should also be aware of the fact that in-depth knowledge of different concepts and intense practice can take you to the peak of success in the field of Data Science & AI.
