In this Accredian Spotlight interview, we feature Alok Kumar, Business Development Manager, Star Commet Pvt. Ltd. His fascination for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence led him to enroll in the Global Certificate in Data Science & AI program at Accredian.
Question 1: What is your current work profile? Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Alok: I am working as a Business Development Manager at Star Commet Private Limited, generating business and providing complete network solutions to my clients. My fascination for emerging technology and quest for knowledge in the field of Data Science & AI drove me to pursue a course at Accredian.
I further realized the need for pursuing the course during Pandemic and decided to build my career in the field.
Question 2: Which program & batch are you a part of at Accredian??
Alok: I am a part of a Global Certificate in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, GCDAI March 2021.
Question 3: What tools and packages in Data Science & ML have you mastered in your program at Accredian so far?
Alok: As I was a beginner at coding. I started working on my basics and learned Python and Statistics. In fact, I began with the starter kit. After that, I mastered the concepts of EDA, ML Algorithms like Random Forest, KNN, etc.
Question 4: What challenges did you face in your Data Science journey? How did you overcome them?
Alok: As I was new to coding I faced some difficulties but with regular practice, I learned the concepts well. Unfortunately, due to health issues, I was not able to complete the web project. However, I attended the lectures to continue my learning.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from them the most?
Alok: Suchit and Sai are my favorite faculty at Accredian. Suchit taught me EDA and Sai taught Advanced Machine Learning.
One thing that inspires me about them is the attitude to never give up and always giving best against all odds.
Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?
Alok: The goal of Data Science is to analyze raw data and find and present insights to offer solutions to business problems.
Question 7: In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Alok: A few years ago, there was limited data and it was easier to process. Nowadays, as we have to process huge amounts of data so, we have started using various tools of Data Science. It deals with analysis and observation of Data.
Moreover, Machine Learning algorithms are being used everywhere as we are training machines to analyze pattern in data and make accurate predictions.
Question 8: What are the current trends in Data Science that you are most excited about?
Alok: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence are involved everywhere. The current trend that I am most excited about is Deep Fakes. It uses Deep Learning algorithms and Artificial Intelligence to replace the characters of one person with another in a video.
Question 9: Which are some of the Data Science blogs that you follow?
Alok: Some blogs that I follow for Data Science include Towards Data Science, Analytics Vidhya, Data Science Central, and KD nuggets.
Question 10: What advice would you give to a Data Science beginner?
Alok: To start a career in Data Science, one must have clarity in the basics of Python and Statistics. Master the concepts of EDA, Algorithms of Machine Learning, and Deep Learning and gain hands-on experience by working on live projects.
