Being an economist, Dr. Smrutirekha Singhari has extensively worked with data, statistics and various econometric models. Her love for machine learning and the desire to use statistics for data science science in her field of career pushed her to take up the Global Certificate in Data Science (GCD) program at Accredian.
In this interview, lets see what’s her take on the future of data science and how her learning experience has been at Accredian.
Question 1: Which program & batch are you part of at Accredian & tell us more about your current work profile?
Smrutirekha: I am Dr. Smrutirekha Singhari. I am pursuing the Global Certificate in Data Science (GCD) program, June 2020 Batch. As an economist, currently, I am working on a research project entitled ‘Wage differential between public and private sectors in India’. I am also working on different projects on data science as assigned to us by our mentor and am really interested in the use of statistics for data science.
Question 2: Walk us through your career journey & what got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Smrutirekha: I am an economist. I do quantitative research, where I apply the different econometric models in my research work. I find machine learning quite fascinating as I have already dealt with them in statistics and econometrics.
Question 3: What all tools and packages in Data Science & Machine Learning have you mastered in your Data Science & AI program at Accredian so far?
Smrutirekha: I have learned several concepts including data visualization and exploratory data analysis. Apart from that, I also mastered machine learning models like linear regression, decision tree, random forest.
Question 4: What are some of the initial challenges when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Smrutirekha: I find difficulty in remembering codes in Python and writing codes for a particular algorithm. I generally browse the internet to find answers to this problem.
Question 5: Who is your favorite faculty at Accredian and what did you learn from him the Most?
Smrutirekha: I like the teaching style of Mr. Suchit and Mr. Neelmani. The delivery of Neelmani is instrumental as it corroborates with my existing knowledge of econometrics techniques and the use of statistics for data science.
Question 6: What is the goal of Data Science?
Smrutirekha: My goal of studying data science is to become a data scientist with efficiency in model building processes that could help to solve economic issues.
Question 7: In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Smrutirekha: Data science has evolved a lot in the recent period in terms of advancement in tools and techniques for the sake of Big Data analysis.
Question 8: What are the current trends in Data Science that you are most excited about?
Smrutirekha: I am excited to handle big data to solve economic problems.
Question 9: Which are some of the blogs that you follow?
Smrutirekha: I use the WordPress blogging platform.
Question 10: What is your advice to anyone wanting to start a career in Data Science?
Smrutirekha: Someone should choose a data science career if he/she has an interest in working with data and has sound knowledge of statistics for data science use, econometrics, and mathematics.
