At Accredian, we create accomplished and empowered Data Leaders. We groom our students to dominate the world of Data Science and AI and reshape their future. We value what our students bring to the table. We share their vision and support them during their journey and ensure that they carve a niche for themselves.
We’re proud to have tutored exceptional students all across India. Today, one such exceptional student, Jaymala Kangana stands in the spotlight.
Student Name: Jaymala Kanagala
Current Organization: Innowave IT infrastructure Limited
Batch: GCD – August 2019
Total years of experience: 22 years
Malvika: Hi Jaymala, before we begin, could you tell us more about your current work profile?
Jaymala: Currently I’m working with Innowave IT infrastructure Limited as a Project Director. I’m handling multiple projects and I’m responsible for project management, solution designing and process controlling.
I have handled different technology teams from the project perspective. My role involves ensuring timelines are met, relaying new technology additions to the client and expectation management.
Malvika: What got you interested in Data Science & Machine Learning?
Jaymala: It actually started on one of my projects.
We wanted to do some analysis of properties because under the Government is a Property Tax Model. And from that property tax model analysis, we wanted to standardize the rate of tax.
From there. I started the analysis part in Excel and from there I developed an interest in Data Science.
Malvika: What are some of the initial challenges you faced when you got started on your Data Science journey and how did you overcome it?
Jaymala: Being in the IT industry for over 22 years now, Python was not a challenge. However, understanding statistical concepts and their applications was slightly challenging as there has been a significant gap since I was last involved in the core of statistics.
Malvika: What is the goal of Data Science? In your view, how has Data Science evolved in the last few years?
Jaymala: I would say that earlier all the analysis was separate for separate domains. The financial analysis team was separate from marketing analysis and so on. People were focusing on their own domains.
Over time, however, people have transitioned into common domains. Rather, I’d say analysis has become very domain-independent with more Data Analysts and more such profiles gaining popularity.
All the tools, all the domains, all the functionalities are now coming together for stronger predictive analysis.
Malvika: What are the current trends in Data Science that you are most excited about?
Jaymala: Well, definitely AI IoT.
It is the application of Artificial Intelligence to Internet of Things. In my company, I’ve been involved in the government domain and I’m currently working on Healthcare data.
At the same time, we are working on one model for advanced image recognition. These are some developments related to my current line of work I’m really excited about.
Malvika: Which are the top Data Science & AI blogs that you follow?
Jaymala: I continuously follow Medium.
I find that the Accredian blog and towardsdatascience also have well-written articles.
Malvika: At Accredian, students are encouraged to build high-quality GitHub profiles. Have you built a GitHub portfolio and how do you think this will help you?
Jaymala: I am really thankful to Accredian for those sessions. Being in the IT industry for over 22 years now, there were still some aspects I wasn’t aware of.
Accredian made me aware that we can publish our work on GitHub as well. In our company, we are hiring a lot of Python Freshers and Data Analysts as of now. During the recruitment procedure, I found out that GitHub is a very valuable source for understanding what all the person has done in his past and showcasing all projects and undertakings in one place.
Another useful aspect is that you can demonstrate all you have worked on to your entire team. The team members can also learn from your work.
Malvika: Crafting a great Data Science resume is a critical part of getting shortlisted for Data Science roles. Tell us some ways in which you have improved your resume as part of Data Science Career Launchpad.
Jaymala: The resume session was especially helpful from the other sessions during the Career Launchpad as that one particular session focused on how Data Scientists should publish their resumes.
Speaking for myself, I already know what goes into an IT resume but how to present your experience and achievements in a Data Science resume is what was taught exceptionally well in the Career Launchpad session.
Malvika: Accredian’s mission is to Groom Data Leaders of tomorrow. What do you understand by a Data Leader? And how is a Data Leader different from a Data Scientist?
Jaymala: Data Leaders are Leaders who work on the business problems in real-time.
They help Data Scientists to work on particular models and their corrections and leading the team in general.
Malvika: How has your journey with Accredian been so far? Do you have any comments on how the curriculum has been structured, the faculty and the support team?
Jaymala: I must say, out of all the courses I have researched or been associated with, Accredian by far has been the most training-oriented.
The faculty is so good that they are available at all times whenever something is required. I must appreciate the way the faculty answers questions raised during the lecture.
The curriculum and everything shared by Accredian is extremely user-friendly.
Malvika: Thank you for your time, Jaymala. All the best for your future!
